My greatgrandfather (Mother's side) was Andrew Cresens. This is a Walloon name, apparently. He was from the Smaaland area of Sweden and he arrived in the U.S. in 1867, I believe. He came to a settlement in central Texas that had been settled by Svante M. Swenson. My family has had no luck tracing the Cresens name until I saw a version of it (Cressens) in a Belgian museum and then started to check the Internet. I found a short story on the Walloon/Swedish iron connection about a month ago. I have a more complete genealogy about some folks named Newlin (Nylin?) from the same area if that would help anyone check out the name. Thank you. Forgive me, I only read/write English and Spanish, so my translation from Swedish will be slow. Elizabeth McLane, Houston, Texas, USA |
